MATH - NUMERACY WORKBOOKS

NUMERACY WORKBOOKS For Children with Learning DifficultiesWorkbooks for students with learning difficulties and for students who have little confidence in their ability to perform relatively simple mathematical tasks aswell as solving math problems.

The workbooks offer steps and strategies to master the basic facts, so the students become fluent in computational procedures and solving problems.

Jays' programs offer a structured systematic approach to build a conceptual understanding of number systems. They cover Addition, Subtraction, Money, Multiplication, Division, Angles, Fractions, problem solving  and Algebra.

Some workbooks have the
LUK symbol after their name. The LUK Self Checking Program enables students to complete their worksheets, check their answers and self correct any mistakes.

The workbooks are suitable for Prep and Primary age. The programs are highly valued by teachers of students with learning difficulties.

The workbooks are an excellent tool for home schooling because each program includes helpful teaching strategies and the worksheets are designed in small gradual increments.

Every child should be taught the basic mathematical skills that allow him/her to function well in their daily lives without encountering math problems.

Jays’ workbook programs implement handy strategies and teach children skills needed to perform relatively simple mathematical tasks. Children/students are encouraged to master basic number facts and learn simple computation procedures needed to solve mathematical problems. Using simple steps and easy to comprehend strategies the students will become confident to perform relatively simple mathematical tasks; no problem for sure.

Students have to develop the conceptual understanding of numbers. Numeracy refers to student’s flexibility with numbers, the understanding of the meaning of numbers and number systems are the ability to apply this knowledge and skills to solve problems.

Using Jays' workbook program students will develop automaticity in recalling basic number facts and in choosing and applying the most suitable computational procedure.

An increased importance is placed on using problem solving as the core component of teaching maths. Solving problems is an integral part of today's maths programs. However mathematical problem solving is a complex activity requiring reasonable level of automaticity in recall and application of fundamental number skills.

Young children do not yet have an adequate base of number knowledge and skills to choose from tom solve number problems. Tasks that are too advanced and too complex frustrate the students and discourage them from trying new strategies to acquire essential mathematical skills and develop a positive disposition towards mathematics. Older students with learning difficulties need the same approach, they will improve and catch up.

Remember, the gap between achievers and nonachievers begins in early primary school and widens with each unsuccessful year.

Students need a structured approach, concepts clearly and systematically presented and a sufficient time allowed to participate acquiring new skills. They need to see and understand mathematical patterns and structures, they have to recognise the mathematical similarities.

Many children have a poorly developed visual memory and associated visual skills.  Individual recognition in mathematical representation plays a critical role in the development of patterns and structures, absorption and generalisation of mathematical concepts and strategies. Children/students with learning difficulties need the extra time and attention even more in order to improve their performance.
