Concept of Money - COINS (contains 70 worksheets)
This workbook tries to present and develop the concept of Money, focusing on coins. Coins are the basic units of money. They are needed for small items, such as drinks, newspaper, sweets, snacks, and bus or train fares. If bank notes are used, coins are often given back as change. Our society has changed dramatically. Most transactions are done by credit cards,
cheques, directly by BPay, charge accounts, etc. Children are lacking the skill of handling money, as they are not subjected to the constant influences
of money movement. Today’s children have to be taught the concept of money and the value of coins and notes.
The concept of money values and the skill of counting out the correct amount is very difficult to grasp. There are 5c, 10c, 20c, and 50c, and there are also $1 and $2 coins. For many children this is a very confusing concept. The large range of activities will encourage the children to
- Recognise 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c and their different values
- Recognise the difference in size and value of the 5c and 50c coins
- Understand that $2 is the same as 2x $1 dollar coins, 50c = 5 x 10c
- Understand the term "correct money" or enough money to pay for an item
- Realise that there are more alternatives to choose the correct coins to make a
payment
